Today, we should reinterpret this classic fairy tale, as
Google, Google,
Delphi on the 'net,
Who's today's hottest name
On the Internet?
My hobby of the last few months has been looking at how people and companies are present on the net (It's actually kind of amusing to compare the impact of say, George Bush and Britney Spears.)
One measure of fame is how present you are (your company, your brand) in the media. Looking at the count of news articles from the last week, news.google.ch paints an interesting picture, say of the Swiss Bundesrat:
| 1 | Micheline Calmy-Rey | 587 |
| 2 | Moritz Leuenberger | 567 |
| 3 | Christoph Blocher | 535 |
| 4 | Doris Leuthard | 477 |
| 5 | Pascal Couchepin | 439 |
| 6 | Samuel Schmid | 281 |
| 7 | Hans-Rudolf Merz | 6 |
Hans-Rudolf who?
Looking forward to the elections next month, we can also look at which parties are getting media attention:
| 1 | SP Zuerich | 557 |
| 2 | SVP Zuerich | 436 |
| 3 | FDP Zuerich | 382 |
| 4 | CVP Zuerich | 318 |
| 5 | Gruene Zuerich | 192 |
| 6 | EVP Zuerich | 123 |
| 7 | Schweizer Demokraten Zuerich | 0 |
| 8 | Gruenliberale Zuerich | 0 |
My Hypothesis: the study of news and blog articles could be an interesting alternative to polls and market research. Will the election reflect the media popularity? We won't have to wait long to find out...
